Paxton Illinois Native Tom Meents Attempts Front Flip In Max D For Guinness World Records [VIDEO]

Max D Guinness World Records Attempt!
Max D Guinness World Records Attempt!

Over the weekend I traveled to East Rutherford New Jersey to witness the first ever front flip attempt in a Monster Jam Truck! Paxton, Illinois native, and Monster Jam pioneer Tom Meents had been practicing for weeks to make his way into the Guinness World Records.

The event was titled “Path of Destruction,” and I had the privilege of hosting the festivities that evening. Not only were 50,000 people at MetLife Stadium on their feet to witness the unthinkable, but it was broadcast live around the world on FoxSports.com, MonsterJam.com, and the Fox Go App!

While you can’t really tell in this video, I got to be a part of it all. You can hear my voice in the video getting the crowd pumped, and if you click here, you can watch the video from another angle and see the interview I did with Tom after the front flip.

While it was spectacular, it didn’t count as an official record for the Guinness World Records. For it to have been official, he needed to land on all four tires. But, it ended up bouncing off the back tires into an “endo” as it’s called in the industry.

Here is the official word from Monster Jam:

Tom Meents, 11-time Monster Jam World Finals® Champion, just missed establishing a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for landing the first-ever front flip of a 10,500 pound monster truck. Meents completed a full forward rotation, landing on Max-D’s rear tires, however bounced into an over-rotation so that his front tires did not hit the ground, as required by the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS guidelines.

It was an epic moment in Monster Jam history, and Tom Meents is a true pioneer. This weekend, we head to Foxboro, Massachusetts where he will attempt to finally land a double backflip!

Below are a few different videos of the monumental moment in motorsports. And the person holding the Fox Sports 1 microphone is me!!!
