I finally saw Finding Dory over the weekend and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. The waterworks started at “just keep swimming” and they never stopped. The way we got to see the characters develop and grow was everything my 10-year-old self hoped they would be. The new characters like Bailey the beluga and Destiny the whale shark just added to the comedic effect.
But there’s one problem. After all we’ve been hearing from aquariums and scientists urging people not to get blue tang fish, Disney and Pixar didn’t do anything to stop the “Nemo effect” from happening like it did 12 years ago with clown fish. It would have been so easy to show an animated short or a PSA before the movie to educate the public. Instead they showed a cute short about a baby bird. It really was cute but what’s more important?
