AtmosFEAR

An amusement park ride in Oregon malfunctioned on Friday and left 28 people hanging upside down for almost 30 minutes.  Here is one of the riders talking about the experience. It was opening day.  The ride is called AtmosFEAR.  One person was taken to a hospital as a precaution, but no one was seriously hurt.

20th anniversary of “Napoleon Dynamite” Tot Pants

For the 20th anniversary of “Napoleon Dynamite”, Ore-Ida got Jon Heder back into portraying his famous character for a few ads.  They promote new tot-protecting pants.  They resemble Napoleon’s joggers, but with a red, zippered tot-protecting pocket on the upper leg.  Here’s one of the ads.

Surgeon General Versus Your Social Media

The current Surgeon General wants to put a cigarette-style warning label on social media.  He says it would regularly remind both parents and kids that social media has not been proven safe. The U.S. Surgeon General has many responsibilities we assume but they are MOSTLY known for slapping warning labels on things like cigarettes and alcohol.  And now, a NEW label may be on the way.

Working Harder Than ANYONE!

Almost EVERYONE wishes they had more time in the day . . . and yet, we all know people who are constantly complaining about how busy THEY are.  So, you may be able to relate to this . . .

Researchers from the University of Georgia have found that people who frequently complain about their stressful work lives are seen as “less competent” and “less likable” by those around them.

Those are NOT the workers who are overwhelmed, and are proactive about addressing it . . . that’s a good thing.  These are the people who “stress brag,” like they’re wearing it as a badge of honor.

“Stress bragging” can be bad for anyone who does it too much, because . . . like “crying wolf” . . . those people are LESS likely to be offered help when they really ARE burned out.

The study also found that stress bragging can be NEGATIVE for work culture, because it increases intensity and stress levels for everyone in the office.

Bad Advice To Stop Following

1.  “Don’t go to bed angry.”  The idea is that it CAN be better than arguing when you’re tired and irritable.  And maybe things will seem different in the morning.

2.  “Never give up.”  Sometimes, if something isn’t working, you need to let go.

3.  “When there’s a bully, just ignore them.”  Most bullies won’t stop just because you ignore them.  Sometimes the situation needs to be addressed.

4.  “Don’t be afraid to do what you love, and the money will follow.”  This can be true, but it also could get you in a lot of trouble.  It’s possible to make money doing something you’re passionate about, but you’re still going to have to figure it out HOW . . . for most people, it doesn’t just happen magically on its own.

5.  “Tough it out.”  Not always.  Talk about it, take breaks, and think it over.  Take care of yourself and then keep going, or you’ll run yourself into the ground.

6.  “Forgive and forget.”  Someone said, “It should be ‘forgive, but don’t forget’ because nine out of 10 times, people’s poor behavior is part of a pattern.  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.”

7.  “Treat people how you want to be treated.”  Someone said, “You’ll be taken advantage of.  Instead, I treat people the way THEY treat me.”

8.  “Trust your gut.”  The spirit of this one is empowering, but for people with anxiety and other issues, their “gut” may be working against more compelling data and support systems.  One person said, “If it were up to MY gut, I’d never do anything.”

The Top Dating Red Flags America Has Been Googling

HIGHLIGHTS:  The top dating red flags we’ve been googling include double texting, talking to their ex, saying “I love you” too soon, and watching true crime.  Does it mean they might try to MURDER you?

FULL STORY:  Google released a list of the top dating red flags we’ve been googling over the past year.  Do you think these five things are a big deal?

1.  Saying “I Love You” too soon.  If they say it a month in, maybe.  If they say it on your first date, definitely.

2.  Watching true crime.  If they love true crime shows, does it mean they might try to MURDER you?  (???)

3.  Love bombing.  That’s when someone praises you or showers you with gifts early on, then turns PSYCHO.  The Cleveland Clinic defines it as a form of psychological and emotional abuse.  It’s also something cult leaders do.

4.  Talking to an ex.  Is it a red flag if they’re still friends with their exes, or can that be a good thing?

5.  Double texting.  That’s when they send a follow-up text before you’ve even replied to the first one.  It’s not always a red flag but could be a sign they’re obsessive or controlling.

Happy Teachers Week! We found a lot of things teachers love, and one from school in Ohio that teachers don’t love right here!

Spring Break Slap Off

A bartender in Florida is making a very good living slapping spring breakers in the face.  (???)  If you’ve never heard of a “hurricane shot,” that’s what it is.  Most of her customers are men, but she’ll slap women too. For $30, you take a shot . . . have a pitcher of water thrown in your face . . . and get slapped in the face HARD.  She’s been selling up to $6,000 worth of shots a night.

He Invented Bottle Night Date Night

It’s hard to believe there could be a new dating trend that can happen AT HOME . . . after a year of pandemic quarantine creativity . . . but this guy has a brilliant idea. His name is Collin, and in a post on Twitter he said that he and his girlfriend “invented” it during a blizzard in Buffalo last year.  It’s called “Bottle Night” . . . and here it is, pretty simple

 Willy Wonk-less!

For all the concerns about A.I., one thing that we all have to remember is this:  It doesn’t take a lot of effort . . . to make it SEEM like there’s a lot of effort. There was something called “Willy’s Chocolate Experience” . It cost $45 per person, and it was advertised as an immersive walk-through experience that made you feel like you were in Willy Wonka’s factory. The images they used to promote it looked lush with lighting and design . . . like something you’d see at Disney.  But those were apparently just A.I.

When parents and children actually arrived, it was a mostly empty warehouse . . . with a few props sitting around that looked like stuff from parade floats. The “experience” was less than 10 minutes long, and didn’t feature any candy . . . let alone any décor or “immersive” interaction. One person gave this review, “Underwhelming was an understatement.  Embarrassing doesn’t even cut it.  I paid for Willy Wonka and got Billy Bonkers.”

We found these pictures of the “experience” and they are epic, look here  at what people THOUGHT they were getting, and you can see the reality herehere, and here.)
