There is only one word to describe my recent trip to Secrets Cap Cana. That word is “EXCELLENTE!”
Seriously. WOW!
After the last year I have had, this trip made it all worth the highs and the lows. And usually, I don’t plug things for free, but this trip was so amazing, I can’t hold it in.
FIRST, I want to talk about the people of the Dominican Republic. These are the sweetest, friendliest people on the planet. They went above and beyond my expectations of how service should be. There wasn’t a moment on this entire trip where I didn’t feel welcome. They always had a smile on their faces and ALWAYS said “Hola!” or “Buenos Dias!” I have never been to an all-inclusive resort before, and they have set the standard for what service truly is! And I made sure to take care of them in return. So, to the many friends I made at Secrets, I say “Gracias.”
We got to the resort, were handed cold towels and a glass of champagne, and were greeted with “Welcome home!” It was at that moment that I knew this our stay was going to be special.
My slogan the last year has been “work so hard, forgot how to vacation!” It has been non-stop for me. After the birth of my son I was doing radio and bartending on the weekends to pay the bills. Then the start of this year, traveling all over the country to host Monster Jam events, the TV show, being a husband/dad, and still keeping employed here at Radio Peoria. So, I had high expectations for this trip that I trusted my wife to book and she hit a grand slam!
Watching the sunrise with my wife was special! The sand was so white, the ocean so blue, the breeze was always refreshing, and the sound of the wind through the palm trees was relaxing! This truly IS paradise. Plus, the food, the drinks, and the Dominican swag were LEGIT! Their coco-loco coconut drinks were deliciouso! And, I had so much “Presidente” cervesa that the Dominican people kept calling me Donald.
You might think, “wasn’t it insanely hot in June?” Nope. It was PERFECT! 85 and sunny every day, just like in January, February, and March when most people go. We basically had the resort to ourselves.
My only regret about this trip is I assumed that the Dominican people were more fluent in english. But, this made me realize that I need to be better about learning languages before I visit other countries. While my spanish was a little rusty, my espanol was appreciated and they could tell I had a little bit of understanding of the native language.
So, when I go back next year, I will be fully prepared to have better conversations with the locals. AND, I will venture into the country to immerce myself into the culture, because I didn’t get any sancocho! And I was a little bummed about that.
Other than that, this trip was the best. And, I’m not sure anything will ever beat it. It was an amazing time, with amazing friends, and just perfect!
If you are looking to book a vacation in Punta Cana, Secrets Cap Cana will blow your mind!
And on the flight home, you see all of these other beautiful looking islands to remind your how sad you are that you are leaving… SO, if I don’t go back to the DR, it will be to explore some of these places below. AND, they better bring their A-game for service, because the people of the Dominican Republic are #Excellente!
