I went to see the new movie about the band Queen, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, last night, and there was one thing missing from the shots of the crowds at the concerts in the 80s – CELL PHONES! The crowd was singing, laughing, crying, dancing, and zoned in to the show. Now, Queen was a band that transcended genres, they weren’t exclusively rock or pop or anything else, they were just fun and everyone was experiencing it instead of taking video of it! Often concert crowds these days (insert old lady emoji 🙂 ) are even pushing or shoving others to get the best pic or video, instead of sharing the joy of their shared favorite band or artist. Sometimes I find myself watching the phone someone else is using to video instead of the stage!! I am 100% guilty of having my phone out capturing the moment, but the last few concerts I’ve gone to, I’ve tried to limit myself to only taking video of the chorus of one or two of my fav songs and just taking pictures that will help me remember the feeling of being there! I’m also a hypocrite, because as annoying as some concert Snapchat stories are, it makes me feel like I’m at shows that I’m not actually attending. So there is no real correct answer here. Find what’s best for you and just make sure you’re remembering to experience and take in the moment while you’re there with those around you instead of thinking about the ‘gram! And don’t judge me when you see me breaking my own rules out at the shows! 😉
