Hi. 90s girl here. I mean, technically I was born in ’88, but my childhood was in the 90s and early 00s, so it counts. And my kind of music as a child, pre-teen, and teenager was the poppy goodness of NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Christina Aguilera, and… of course, the Princess of Pop herself, Britney Spears! I mean, I was personally devastated when Britney and Justin broke up.
Also in my days as a child, I loved all things Disney, because, duh. I loved all the fairy tales, and as I grew up, I also read the creepy Grimm versions. I loved Once Upon a Time a few years ago, showing all these characters intermixing and learning more about them. And one of my Broadway obsessions was Wicked, taking the villain of the Wizard of Oz and flipping the script to show the Wicked Witch of the West’s side of the story, and how she wasn’t wicked after all.
And then there’s the Broadway thing… I love musicals. I love plays. I love theatre so much I was actually a Theatre major in college.
So now that you know all this about me, you should be no surprised at the over-the-top excitement I feel when I learned about a BROADWAY musical that will use the music of Britney Spears… based around Disney Princesses, called Once Upon a One More Time. Uhm…. what? Did you construct this musical just for ME??
According to broadwayworld.com:
Once Upon A Time… Cinderella, Snow White, and the other fairytale princesses gather for their book club, when – oh, baby baby! – a rogue fairy godmother drops The Feminine Mystique into their corseted laps, spurring a royal revelation. Could there really be more to life than bird-made dresses and true love’s kiss? Set to the songs of Britney Spears, the Princess of Pop herself, ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME is an uproarious, irreverent look at the towering challenges, charms, and choices involved in finding that most elusive of endings: Happily Ever After.
What’s even better than that is the previews for this show start in CHICAGO, before moving to make its run on Broadway in New York, so it’s really feasible that we can see this before most of the country. Previews start Oct. 29 and official Opening night is November 13th… the only question is WHO IS COMING WITH ME???
